The Media Highway corridor spans Bağcılar, Bahçelievler, and Küçükçekmece. It begins near the former Atatürk Airport, intersects with the E-5 highway, connects northward to the TEM highway, and continues toward Istanbul Airport and the Northern Marmara Motorway.
Küçükçekmece, especially Atakent, has developed into one of the most organised and desirable residential areas in this part of Istanbul. The Ataköy–Bahariye stage opened on 18 March 2024, making the line much more valuable for residents and investors.
Further rail investments around Halkalı, Istanbul Airport, and the wider western corridor are expected to strengthen the area’s position over time. These links improve access to the Historic Peninsula, the Asian side, the airport, Marmaray, and Istanbul’s wider metro network.
The Decommissioning of Atatürk Airport
The closure of Atatürk Airport in 2019 changed the future of the surrounding area. With airport-related limitations gradually reduced, developers gained more flexibility for taller and more ambitious projects. Part of the old airport land is also being repurposed as a major national park and event district, which should further improve the area’s lifestyle appeal.
The Business World Moves West
Media Highway has evolved into a new business axis, attracting corporate headquarters, regional offices, logistics firms, e-commerce operations, technology companies, and service businesses. Companies that previously focused mainly on Levent, Maslak, or the Asian side now see Basin Ekspres as a more cost-effective and highly connected alternative.
