This peaceful neighbourhood, known as Atakent, is one of Istanbul’s most sought after middle class regions. Atakent is famous for its multiple private colleges and hospitals. Renowned colleges such as Bahcesehir, TED, Doga koleji, as well as many lesser known private schools all serve the region’s young population. Private hospitals such as Acibadem, as well as the huge Kanuni Sultan Suleyman state hospital all serve the region.
Atakent is traditionally a middle class neighbourhood due to the location of the old airport – this is where the majority of airport staff would live. The new airport moving just 20 minutes north has not changed this demographic. Transportation, roads, private hospitals, private schools/colleges/universities, all serve the region in abundance. The Media highway investment zone just nearby has ensured the regions everlasting popularity, as it has added a new type of demographic – white collar office staff.
